Egypt summons Turkish diplomat over statement against judiciary

Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Egypt's Foreign Ministry summoned on Wednesday the Turkish charge d'affaires to protest Turkish criticism over the Egyptian judiciary system.

The Egypt's statement, posted on its website, lashed out at the comment from Ankara, saying it "provoked disapproval and was filled with lies and illusions." The statement also blamed the Turkish government of repressing against human rights.

The Turkish statement criticized a death sentence verdict against members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

On Monday, an Egyptian court has confirmed the death sentence against 183 supporters of Muslim Brotherhood on charges of killing 11 police officers and two civilians following the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

Egypt also urged Turkey to reform its internal affairs and to stop violations against other countries.
