Mexico's President Enrique Pena Nieto Tuesday appointed Virgilio Andrade Martinez as the new minister of Public Administration charged with investigating cases of corruption in his government.
The president also announced eight different measures designed to "prevent corruption and avoid conflicts of interest."
"As the president, I am determined to strengthen the rule of law and prevent corruption," said Nieto.
The president and his Finance Minister Luis Videgaray have come under fire for purchasing lavish homes from a businessman and having close links with the company which has won lucrative government contracts for major infrastructure projects.
Nieto distanced himself from those deals, saying "the president does not grant contracts ... or participate in any purchasing committee."
Many transparency activists have been calling for stronger measures by the government to fight corruption.
Among the eight measures, the first is to request all public servants to declare any possible conflicts of interests, and to disclose their personal assets and holdings. Endi
