Roundup: Suicide car bomb, gun shots kill 6, wound 6 in Afghanistan

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Suicide car bomb and gun shots against security forces in Afghanistan have claimed six lives including the suicide bomber and injured six others on Tuesday, officials said.

The latest violent incident, which happened in Taliban former stronghold the southern Kandahar province, claimed five lives including a suicide bomber and wounded four others.

"A terrorist blew up the explosive-borne car he was riding next to the convoy of Civil Order Police in Miwand district, Kandahar province, killing himself and four others on the spot and four others were injured in the attack, which occurred at 12:30 p.m. local time today," a local official told Xinhua but declined to be identified, saying authorized officials would brief the media after investigation.

He added that the place where the blast occurred is close to the neighboring restive Helmand province.

Four injured people have been taken to a hospital in Miwand district, the official said.

Spokesman for Kandahar provincial government Samim Khapalawak has confirmed the incident but didn't provide details.

In a similar offensive against security personnel early in the day in the western Herat province, one policeman was killed and two others injured as unknown armed men opened fire on a police checkpoint.

"Two men riding a motorcycle and another three men sitting in a car armed with AK-47 assault rifles approached a security checkpoint in Pul-e-Kar-wa-bar locality of Herat city at 06:30 a.m. local time and opened fire on a police checkpoint, leaving one police dead and wounding two others," a security source told Xinhua but declined to be named.

The attackers escaped the scene, he added.

Meanwhile, Herat provincial police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi in talks with Xinhua confirmed the incident and said that the security forces have launched a massive manhunt in the area to nab the culprits. Endi
