Presentation of a national anti-corruption platform brought together senior officials of Albanian institutions and cabinet members at a conference here on Monday.

According to Albanian Telegraphic Agency, Albanian Minister of State for Local Issues, Blendi Cuci, said in his remarks that the new anti-corruption portal will enable citizens to report cases of corruption via the online program, via e-mail, telephone, while 22 websites of the Albanian institutions have been made available to report corruption.

"We have developed a way to facilitate online reporting since denouncement of corruption cases used to disappear at the officials' offices without tackling corruption. Therefore we have developed the website 'stopkorrupsjoni.al,' an anti-corruption portal, and I invite citizens to denounce cases of corruption," Cuci said, underlining that a strong cooperation between the government and the public is needed to fight corruption in Albania.

Addressing the conference, Albanian Interior Minister Sajmir Tahiri noted that the anti-corruption portal is merely a window to report corruption cases.

"The Ministry of Interior has stepped up its fight against corruption through legal measures and has referred to the judiciary the case of some 300 police officials," Tahiri said, adding that the anti-corruption portal will strengthen combat against corruption.

Albanian Minister of Integration Klajda Gjosha stated in her opening remarks that corruption keeps Albania away from Europe. According to her, the government is firmly committed to fighting corruption and invited citizens to report corruption cases via the online platform.

"We will not cease the fight against corruption and we are resolved to tackle the phenomenon of corruption. The international experience and best anti-corruption practices will lead us to success. Corruption keeps the country away from Europe," she said. Endit
