Japan's Kansai Airport tightens security against terrorism

Kansai Airport, the international hub in western Japan, has tightened security after the Islamic State ( IS) militant group killed its second Japanese hostage and announced the Japanese people as targets of terrorism, local media reported on Monday.

According to Yoshiaki Nishikawa, an officer from Kansai Airport District Immigration Office, the airport has started to conduct more thorough checks on the incoming travelers so as to prevent the entry of terrorists at the border. Meanwhile, the airport security guards began to check the dustbins more carefully for suspicious items.

The immigration office also warned the travelers leaving the country to pay attention to security status of their destinations and take safety measures, and asked those going to countries and regions on the warning list of the Foreign Ministry such as Syria to delay their departure.

On Jan. 31, the IS posted online a video clip showing purportedly the killing of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto. The militant in the video threatened that his knife "will not only slaughter Kenji, but also carry on and cause carnage wherever your (the Japanese) people are found." Endi
