The militants of the Islamic State (IS) have started fleeing the countryside of the predominantly Kurdish city of Ayn al-Arab, or Kobane, in northern Syria, amid the advancement of Kurdish militants there, a monitoring group reported Monday.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) are continuing their progress in the countryside of Ayn al-Arab, mainly the eastern, southern, and southwestern outskirts of the city, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS-Military)

ADEN, Yemen -- The Yemeni security forces clashed with pro-secession militia in the southern port city of Aden on Monday afternoon, leaving at least five people killed, a government official told Xinhua.

"A unit of the special security troops engaged in armed clashes with dozens of pro-secession militia who tried to seize army vehicles loaded with weapons in Aden's neighborhood of Khor Maksar, leaving at least five people killed," the local government official said on condition of anonymity. LAGOS -- Nigerian security forces has killed at least 500 Boko Haram militants when repelling the group's Sunday attack on the northeastern city of Maiduguri, official and security sources told Xinhua Monday.

CAIRO -- An Egyptian court on Monday confirmed death sentences for 183 Muslim Brotherhood supporters over charges of killing 16 policemen in August, 2013, state-run Nile TV reported.

MAIMANA, Afghanistan-- Afghan national army units in coordination with police have killed over a dozen Taliban militants and injured eight others in Qaisar district of Faryab province with Maimana as its capital 425 km northwest of Kabul over the past two days, army spokesman in the province Mohammad Reza Rezai said Monday.
