Guinea's head coach Michel Dussuyer Saturday confirmed that Florentin Pogba is ruled out of the knockout stage of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
"Pogba picked a bad thigh injury in our game against Cameroon and he will have to be out for some months. We have even recommended and he travels back to his team in France to further assess the nature of the injury," said Dussuyer.
Guinea will face the Black Stars of Ghana in a quarterfinal tie on Sunday at the Malabo Stadium. Dussuyer's team was lucky to win the lottery on Thursday which was carried out by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Guinea and Mali were tied on points and goal difference, and CAF went ahead to follow the rules and draw the lots.
Dussuyer said they will miss the St Etienne player who was instrumental in the team's qualifiers. Pogba is the fourth player at the tournament to suffer injury serious enough to rule them out for the duration of the finals in Equatorial Guinea.
Team captain Ibrahima Traore said they will miss Pogba, but will use the other players available.
"I think that our qualification is not just luck as we deserved it given our performances even if we suffered at times. I am very happy for the Guinean people after this qualification and also for us as players," added Traore who has so far scored one goal in the competition. Endi
