1st LD Writethru: India testfires longest-range nuclear-capable missile

Xinhua, January 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

India on Saturday successfully testfired its home-made, nuclear-capable, longest-range Agni-5 ballistic missile off the coast of eastern Odisha state, sources said.

"The missile, with a range of 5,000 km, was testfired from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range. The testfiring was successful," the sources said.

The three-stage missile can travel faster than a bullet and can carry 1,000 kg nuclear weapon, but it can be fired only on orders from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This was the third successful test of the missile with the previous in 2012 and 2013, though the development started five years back. Endi
