FTSE 100 closes lower on Thursday

FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Thursday decreased by 0.22 percent, or 15.34 points, to 6,810.60 points.

The annual pace of house price growth in Britain continued to moderate in January, falling from 7.2 percent in December to 6.8 percent, data showed on Thursday.

The annual house price growth slowed for the fifth month in a row, according to Nationwide, a leading mortgage lender.

EasyJet's share price increased by 6.17 percent, topping the gainers among blue chips. Hargreaves Lansdown, Diageo, Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey increased by 3.82 percent, 3.08 percent, 2.77 percent and 2.46 percent respectively.

Fresnillo led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 5.22 percent, followed by Royal Dutch Shell 'B' (4.89 percent), Royal Dutch Shell 'A' (4.34 percent), Randgold Resources (2.95 percent) and Glencore (2.93 percent).

The index has gained 3.83 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollars. Endit
