Kremlin vows to combat corruption, bureaucracy

Xinhua, January 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russian authorities at all levels must keep up efforts to fight corruption and bureaucracy, the Kremlin said Thursday.

"Corruption poses a direct threat to Russia's security and national sovereignty," Presidential Administration Chief Sergei Ivanov told a meeting with regional governors, adding that corruption steals resources from the country.

According to Ivanov, in 2014 only 1,500 officials reported to law enforcement agencies about attempts to bribe them or to participate in other corruption schemes.

The number is too few, he said, calling on the governors to actively use the Internet for communications with the public for corruption clues.

Meanwhile, Ivanov said the Kremlin is preparing a decree to ban civil servants from holding foreign banking accounts and using foreign monetary instruments.

He also reiterated the need to stop government procurement from organizations affiliated with high-ranking officials. Endi
