China on yellow alert for blizzard

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

China's weather observatory on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for heavy snow that is expected to hit the country's eastern regions.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast that heavy snow will hit parts of Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning.

Some regions will see blizzards accompanied by strong winds during the period with up to 18mm of snow expected, said the NMC.

The NMC advised residents to stay indoors and asked local authorities to brace for the heavy snow.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Endit
