Majority of international community supports recognition of Armenian Genocide: survey

Xinhua, January 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

The majority of the world community votes for international recognition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, the Armenpress news agency reported Tuesday citing a survey.

According to the index issued by the Foundation for Political Innovations, based in Paris, 70 percent of the people around the world considered the 1915 bloody event in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

The survey was conducted among the residents, aged from 16 to 29, in Germany, Russia, the United States and other countries.

About 1.5 million Armenians were killed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923, and the survivors were expelled and found refuge in different parts of the world.

Now more than 20 countries have officially recognized the fact of the Armenian Genocide.

Armenians across the world will mark the 100th anniversary of the 1915 Genocide on April 24, 2015. Endi
