Jordanian lawmaker urges IS to release captive pilot

Xinhua, January 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jordanian lawmaker Motaz Abu Rumman on Monday called on the Islamic State (IS) to release the captured Jordanian pilot in return for freeing failed suicide Iraqi bomber in Jordan.

In a statement to the press, the lawmaker called for releasing the Jordanian pilot who was captured by the IS in December in return for freeing Sajida Rishawi, an Iraqi woman who failed to detonate an explosive device in 2005 in Amman.

Rishawi was along with her husband at a hotel in Amman, when her husband detonated his explosive device killing at least 37 at a wedding. Rishawi failed to detonate the bomb and was later arrested and sentenced to death.

The lawmaker's call came after the IS published a video this week, claiming that it has killed one of the two Japanese hostages it captured earlier.

In the video, the IS called for releasing Rishawi, who enjoyed a close relationship with former Al-Qaida leader in Iraq Abu Musab Zarqawi, in return for freeing the second Japanese hostage. Endit
