Xinhua, January 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Twelve people were killed and three others injured when a passenger train hit a car in the northern Indian state of Haryana on Monday, local media reported.

Five women and four children were among the dead when the vehicle they were traveling crossed the Chandigarh-Hisar road near Sarsod village in Barwala subdivision of Hisar district.

Twelve members of a family from Balak village were going to Panghal village to attend a religious function when the mishap took place.

Local police said six people were killed on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

Low visibility due to fog is believed to be the reason for the crash, and driver of the car was among those killed, police said.

The injured, who were also traveling in the Tata Magic vehicle, have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Hisar. Endi
