15 oil companies blocked by Albanian customs as anti-corruption move

Xinhua, January 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fifteen companies of manufacturing and processing of oil in Albania have been blocked by the General Directorate of Customs, as they were not equipped with meters to control the quantity and quality of crude oil sold in the market, Albanian Daily News reported on Friday.

Customs General Director Elisa Spiropali said Friday that given the 15 producers and processors of oil had not set the meters by Dec. 31, they were blocked, fully suspending their economic activity.

Spiropali said that this measure reduces the spaces of tax evasion in this sector, while she added that this legal requirement has not been enforced for years, creating a substantial deficiency in controlling the amount of oil produced and stocked in the country.

Further on, the Director General of Customs focused on the presentation of "Administration Reform and Anti-Corruption System", including the New Code of Ethics, and New Uniform Integrity Test.

"The organization of this activity aims at communicating some of the elements of an anti-corruption package that was presented to Customs staff and the public," said Spiropali. Endit
