(Sports)Japan's football association says manager not to be sacked

Xinhua, January 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Japan Football Association (JFA) said on Friday that the national side manager Javier Aguirre, who was allegedly involved in fixing a league match in Spain, will remain on the job, the Kyodo news agency reported.

Shortly after Japan were eliminated from the Asian Cup's quarterfinal round on penalties for their earliest exit since 1996, JFA chairman Kuniya Daini was asked if Aguirre would remain in charge of the Japan national football team.

"Yes that is so," Daini answered. "He's done well."

The JFA has sent a delegation to Spain to gather information regarding a complaint filed by Spanish prosecutors over a game in May 2011, in which Aguirre's former club Zaragoza avoided relegation in a 2-1 victory over Levante.

Aguirre is among over 40 individuals accused of being involved in fixing the match. Endi
