Turkey, Djibouti to sign agreements for cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to arrive in Djibouti on Saturday for a one- day visit, which will see the two sides sign agreements for cooperation on investment and trade, an official source said Thursday.

Erdogan, who is to make his first visit to Djibouti, will be accompanied by a large delegation comprising of government officials and about 20 businessmen.

The Turkish president and his Djiboutian counterpart are expected to discuss ways of reinforcing bilateral cooperation in several areas including trade, investments, education, health, culture, research and sports, the source said.

They are equally expected to discuss ways and means Djibouti can facilitate access of Turkish industrial exports to the African markets.

The two sides will sign two agreements on the establishment of Turkish industrial zone and free trade zone in Djibouti.

Official statistics show that the total trade volume between Turkey and Djibouti reached 67 million U.S. dollars in 2013, a 25 percent drop when compared with the 2012 volume. During the first nine months of 2014, the volume of trade stood at 56 million dollars, a 10 percent drop compared to the same period in 2013. Endi
