Tokyo shares end higher on ECB easing

Tokyo shares ended higher Friday with its benchmark Nikkei stock index reaching a three-week high due to the monetary easing decision made by the European Central Bank in efforts to boost eurozone economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 182.73 points, or 1. 05 percent, higher from Friday at 17,511.75.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.79 points, or 0.99 percent, at 1, 403.22.

Gainers were led by insurance, steel and iron, and shipping issues.

The turnover was about 2,123.7 billion yen (about 17.91 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
