Work on new copper mine in Macedonia to be launched in April

Work on new copper mine in southeastern Macedonian Kazandol will be launched in April as the first kind in eastern Macedonia, Nikolce Curlinovski, mayor of Valandovo announced on Thursday, according to Macedonian information agency.

Ukraininan "Konstantinovski plant" company is to embark on open top digging in a new copper mine near the village Kazandol near Valandovo, in southeastern Macedonia, which is expected to precipitate a 20-year prosperity for this small city.

The Ukrainian company has been awarded concessions to exploit on three locations around Macedonia, whose investments are estimated to reach 200 million euros (228 million U.S. dollars).

Kazandol was found to have ore rich in copper in quantities that are worth exploiting and the work is foreseen to begin in April. (1 euro = 1.14 U.S. dollars) Endite
