Chile expects 10.7 bln USD in mining investment from Japan by 2023

Xinhua, January 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chile's state-owned copper producer Cochilco expects some 10.7 billion U.S. dollars in investment from Japan by 2023, the firm's Executive Vice President Sergio Hernandez said Wednesday.

"Japanese mining companies are very interested in continuing to invest in Chile, as the country has provided them with guarantees to plan their investments over the long term," Hernandez said.

Japanese investments in mining between 2014 and 2023 amount to nearly 10.7 billion dollars, "representing 10 percent of the total investment in mining in Chile expected for the period," said Hernandez.

The official met in Japan with a group of companies interested in finding out details of Chile's trade situation and its legal framework regulating mining investment.

Chile is the world's leading producer of copper, the country's main export, and it allows joint ventures with mixed state and private capital in copper mining. Endi
