Spanish FinMin predicts GDP to grow more than IMF's predicted 2 pct

Xinhua, January 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish minister of finance Cristobal Montoro said the Spanish economy would probably grow by more than the International Monetary Fund (IMF)'s Tuesday revised prediction of 2 percent.

The IMF previously predicted the country's gross domestic product (GDP) would grow by 1.7 percent. Meanwhile, the country's GDP is expected to grow by 1.8 percent in 2016, according to the IMF.

Montoro highlighted that this growth would mean more job opportunities for Spanish people.

Meanwhile, the secretary of state for economy, Inigo Fernandez, said Spain would create a million job opportunities between 2014 and 2015.

The IMF had changed its predictions thanks to the reforms carried out by the Spanish government over the last years, he said.

Fernandez explained that the Spanish government's predictions coincided with the IMF forecasts, but the state would revise its own data next April, arguing that lower prices of fuel, lower interest rates, exchange rates and wage moderation would make a positive impact on the economy in 2015. Enditem
