Afghan forces expel militants from Dangan district, restore security

Afghan forces after 40 days of operations have expelled Taliban militants from Dangam district of the mountainous Kunar province with Assadabad as its capital 185 km east of Kabul, army spokesman in the province, Neman Atifi, said Tuesday. "The militants after suffering huge casualties have left Dangam district and normalcy has returned to the district,"Atifi told reporters here. "During the 40-day long operations and conflicts, 261 Taliban insurgents had been killed and 141 others injured while 51 others made captive,"the official further said.

A total of 17 security personnel had been killed and 41 others injured, the official said.

Taliban militants who had launched massive operations in Dangam to capture the strategically important district have yet to make comment. Endi
