Tokyo stocks up 0.56 pct in morning after Wall Street rally

Tokyo stocks ended 0.56 percent higher by the break of Monday after shares on Wall Street last week snapped a five-day losing streak.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 93.70 points, from Friday to 16,957.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 5.08 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,368. 81.

Major gainers included mining, sea transport and nonferrous metal shares. Endi
