Iran denies injury of IRGC's Quds Force commander in Iraq

Xinhua, January 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran denied that the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has been injured in Iraq, Young Reporters Club, affiliated to the state IRIB TV, reported on Friday.

Some Western media reported that the senior commander of IRGC has sustained serious injuries in a suicide attack by the militants of the Islamic State (IS) in the Iraqi city of Samara.

"He (Major General Soleimani) is in Iran" and in good health, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, adding that Iran will not hesitate fighting terrorism and helping the countries threatened by terrorists.

The Quds Force, also known as Qods, is a special unit of Iran's IRGC responsible for "extraterritorial" missions of the Corps.

Iran has reiterated its resolve to defend the holy Shiite shrines and cities in its neighboring country of Iraq and to offer military consultants to the country's army in this regard. Endit
