3 militants killed, 6 injured in N. Afghanistan

Three militants had been killed and six others sustained injuries as Afghan security forces stormed a Taliban hideout in Chamtal district, Balkh province with Mazar-e-Sharif as its capital 305 km north of Kabul on Thursday, an army officer General Abdul Latif said Friday.

"During a joint operation involving units of Afghan national army, police and national directorate for security against Taliban main base in Chamtal district which launched Thursday morning and lasted till late evening Thursday, three militants had been killed and six others injured," Latif told reporters here.

The security forces had also captured huge quantity of arms and ammunition during the operations, the official said.

However, he added that the Taliban base was smashed and some 200 militants have fled, saying operations would continue till ensuring security there in Chamtal and adjoining areas.

Taliban militants fighting the government are yet to make comment. Endi
