The U.S. dollar slipped to lower 116 yen range early Friday in Tokyo deals, maintaining its downward momentum from New York overnight.

At 9 a.m., the dollar was quoted at 116.13-14 yen compared with 116.10-20 yen in New York and 117.66-68 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The euro fetched 1.1637-1637 dollars and 135.14-16 yen against 1.1626-1636 dollars and 135.14-24 yen in New York and 1.1776-1778 dollars and 138.56-60 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon.

In overseas trading overnight, traders bought up the safe-haven yen against the dollar and euro amid market turmoil as the Swiss franc surged after the Swiss National Bank unexpectedly removed the currency's trading cap against the euro. Endi
