Co-branded Myanmar-Japan debit card to be introduced in Myanmar

Myanmar Payment Union (MPU) and Japan Credit Bureau (JCB) have agreed to issue MPU/JCB debit cards to residents of Myanmar, official sources said Thursday.
The card will be accepted on the JCB international network which includes about 27 million JCB merchants in 190 countries and territories around the world as well as used at most MPU accepting locations through MPU's national payment network under a memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties.
MPU has opened most of the 3,000 MPU accepting points-of-sale ( POS) for JCB card members from outside of Myanmar, the sources added.
Myanmar introduced Master Card as the first international e- payment card in the country in November 2012 for foreign visitors, followed by its EASi Travel Master Card for local Myanmar citizens in November 2013.
The Master Card was then followed by Visa card in December 2012 and China Union Pay (CUP) card in February 2013 in cooperation with some leading private banks in Myanmar to facilitate foreign travelers in domestic payment.
