The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially launched the 2014-2015 First Capital Plus Premier League season here on Wednesday at its headquarter in Accra.
The League was billed to start last September but it was halted by a court case filed by King Faisal FC, which barred the GFA from holding its annual congress to usher in the new season.
The chairman of the Professional League Board, Wilbeck Abra Appiah, said with the support of the Football Association, the board had acquired new software called the competition management software to help run a successful league season.
The software will help in gathering data of goals scored, cautions received by each player, league table statistics of all players, and online match reports, among others.
"For some time, we have never played our matches on any other day than Wednesday and possibly Saturdays and Sundays. But this time round if you went through the fixtures you might have realized that even a match will be played on Friday. We must move with times as pertains in other parts of this world," he said.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of First Capital Plus Bank, a locally-owned bank, Nana Yaw Kesse, said his company was very happy with the commencement of the league after a six-month lull.
"I will also like to ask Ghanaians to support the league because, irrespective of what we believe to be the standard of the league, the league is what we have; the league is a Ghanaian brand and we are Ghanaians," said Kesse.
The elite League, which is broadcast exclusively by SuperSport, will begin on January 18, with the first-round fixtures ending on April 29.
The second half of the season is tentatively set to continue from June 7. Endite
