Urgent: U.S. stocks plunge into red territory after volatile trading

U.S. stocks slashed big early gains to turn lower Tuesday despite upbeat data, extending losses for a third straight day.

The Dow fell nearly 0.2 percent, and the S&P 500 lost 0.3 percent while the Nasdaq edged down 0.1 percent. Endite
