Mozambique's opposition urges in-depth probe into intoxicated case

Afonso Dlhakama, leader of the Mozambique's main opposition leader, Tuesday visited victims of intoxicated local produced drink in the Tete province and called for an in-depth investigation.

"First of all I would like to send my condolences to the mourning families, a lot of people died, what I want to appeal now is that the situation cannot stop here, by sending condolences or have the flags at half mast, we need a professional investigation, " said Dlhakama.

He added that in case Mozambique does not have conditions to run the analyses of the samples collected to find the real reasons behind the tragedy, it should send it to foreign countries in order to avoid similar events from happening in the future.

Thee leader also visited the house where the beer was produced where the owners themselves died after consuming the alleged beer, a situation described by the police authorities as a hinder to proceed with investigations.

According to the remaining members of the family, it has been producing this local drink for 30 years already, and this has always been their main source of income and no similar case even ever happened.

On Tuesday morning, the death toll was reported by the health authorities at 71, and due to the limited capacity of the mortuary there are collective funerals.

The provincial government in Tete is helping the families with coffins and other funeral expenses. Endi
