Tokyo stocks down 1.74 pct in morning on oil price fall

Tokyo stocks fell 1.74 percent in the morning session of Tuesday following overnight falls on Wall Street and sinking crude oil prices.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plunged 298.86 points, from Friday to 16,898.87. The market was closed on Monday for national holiday.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 21.64 points, or 1.57 percent, at 1,358. 94.

Major decliners included mining, insurance and textile issues. Endi
