Backgrounder: Afghanistan's new cabinet lineup

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani announced on Monday the new cabinet lineup that included 25 minister candidates and one nominee each for the National Directorate for Security, the country's intelligence agency, and the Da Afghanistan Bank, the country's central bank.

The following is the lineup of the nominees, including three women, which will be submitted to the lower house of the Afghan parliament for a vote of confidence:

-- Shir Mohammad Karimi, nominated to head the Ministry of National Defense

-- Noor-ul-Haq Ulumi, nominated to head the Ministry of Interior Affairs

-- Salauddin Rabbani, nominated to head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

-- Ghulam Jilani Popal, nominated to head the Ministry of Finance

-- Ahmad Seyar Mahjor, nominated to head the Ministry of Justice

-- Gul Zulmai Younosi, nominated to head the Ministry of Education

-- Najeeba Ayoubi, nominated to head the Ministry of Women's Affairs

-- Dr. Abbas Basir, nominated to head the Ministry of Public Works

-- Firozuddin Firoz, nominated to head the Ministry of Public Health
