Whiteside proves his worth in the Heat's victory over Clippers

Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Miami's Hassan Whiteside proved his worth with career highs of 23 points off the bench in the Heat's 104-90 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

Chris Bosh scored 34 points and Dwyane Wade had 17 points on 5-of-15 shooting and 10 assists to help the Heat end a three-game road skid at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Clippers had won two straight and five of their last six games before Sunday and the Heat had lost five of six games.

Whiteside replaced Chris Andersen halfway and finished with 16 rebounds, more than Jordan and Blake Griffin combined.

"It means a lot," Whiteside said, who spent the summer dialing NBA teams seeking a tryout and heard the only response of "yes" from Miami coach Erik Spoelstra.

"It's crazy that I'm on a team called the Heat because there's always been a flame inside me. I always try to come in and just play as hard as I can and keep proving people wrong," Whiteside said.

Blake Griffin scored 26 points and 6 rebounds and Chris Paul had 23 points and 9 assists for the Clippers on Sunday. Blake Griffin thought the Clippers gave Whiteside too many easy buckets right at the rim.

"They spread the floor, with (Chris) Bosh, you have to respect him deep. That leaves the hole sometimes a little unprotected," Griffin said after the game, "We need to make it tougher for a guy like that. He played well, extremely well. His efficiency was great on the boards. He was the biggest difference in this game." Endi
