Roundup: Afghan forces kill 5 militants, roadside bomb wounds 2 security personnel

Five militants were killed as clash erupted in Qadis district of the northwest Badghis province on Sunday while a roadside bomb organized by militants injured two security personnel including a senior official, police confirmed.

"A group of militants stormed police checkpoint in Qadis district Sunday morning and police returned fire triggering gun battle which lasted for several hours during which five Taliban insurgents had been killed," deputy to Badghis provincial police chief, Hamayon Angar told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on police or civilians during the conflicts, the official contended.

Taliban militants who have been fighting to regain power are yet to make comment.

In another development which occurred in the neighboring Herat province, a roadside bomb struck a car, injuring two persons including the intelligence chief of Shindand district, police said.

"A mine planted by militants struck the car of intelligence chief of Shindand district, Herat province at noon, injuring him along with another who is also an employee of intelligence agency there," police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Xinhua.

Investigation has been initiated into the case to identify and bring to justice those behind the crime, he added.

Taliban militants who are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombings have yet to claim any responsibility. Endi
