All European countries could be potential targets of terrorist attacks: Finnish FM

Xinhua, January 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said that all European countries could be targets of terrorist attacks, reported Finnish national broadcaster YLE on Saturday.

When interviewed with YLE on Saturday morning, Tuomioja made the comment on the recent terrorist attacks in France this week.

Tuomioja said that terrorism knows no borders, adding that there are extremely serious situations everywhere in the world at any time, as the world today is in a state of interdependence.

France is an active participant in the coalition against Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and every European country takes the same stand, so that all European countries are potential targets of terrorist attacks, he claimed.

"We all have to be on guard for strikes by extremist movements that can happen anywhere," Tuomioja was cited as saying.

He pointed out that in every country there are, for example, foreign embassies that can be targets of interest for terrorists.

However, Tuomioja said that it is wrong to stigmatize Muslims on the basis of individual acts of violence, saying that over 99 percent of Muslims condemns such violence and do not want to have anything to do with it. Endit
