Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff Wednesday condemned the attack at the headquarters of French magazine Charlie Hebdo, which killed at least 12 people and injured 11 others earlier on the day.
"It was with much regret and indignation that I was informed of the bloody, intolerable terrorist attack against the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo magazine, earlier today, in Paris," she said in an official statement.
"In this moment of pain and suffering, I want to extend to the families of the victims my condolences and express to both President Hollande and the French people my solidarity and the solidarity of the Brazilian people," she added.
President Rousseff described the attack as a "barbaric act," saying aside from "the immeasurable human losses, this act of barbarity is an unacceptable attack on fundamental value of democratic societies: freedom of the press."
Charlie Hebdo, which is based in Paris' 11th arrondissement, was firebombed in 2011, due to the publishing of a controversial series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.
It is not known who was responsible for the attack, but, according to several international news outlets, witnesses heard the attackers say they would "avenge the prophet." Endi
