About 70 percent of the women surveyed said that they would only consider marrying men who own a house or apartment, the Legal Evening News reported.
The survey, jointly conducted by Chinese Association of Marriage and Family (CAMF) and baihe.com, a match-making website in the country, also revealed that men, on the contrary, pay more attention to the appearance of females while choosing their partners.
The final results of the survey are based on more than 30,000 respondents from across the country, aged 20 to 60 years old.
Approximately 41.7 percent of females expect their ideal mates to be civil servants, usually regarded as a relatively stable occupation, and about 38.3 percent of males are hoping to find a lovely school teacher, who is likely to have sufficient time for family.
There is a wide gap between such expectations and reality, which hinders the mate selection process, said Wang Zhiguo, an expert with baihe.com.
Currently, about 180 million single Chinese are busy searching for their mates, according to the report.
