Beijing to Promote Mobile Phone Swipe Subway Card Services

People in Beijing will be able to take the bus or subway by simply swiping their mobile phones in the next month, theLegal Evening Postreported Monday.

It is said to be one important part of China Unicom's mobile payment business, which is going into formal commercial use in four municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing, according to the China Unicom product innovation Office.

This exclusive system will only be provided China Unicom's mobile users. To enjoy the service, users may need to change mobile phones to the ones made for the service, or change to a new SIM card in China Unicom's business hall.

The mobile payment account is independent of the mobile communication account, with a capacity of up to 1000 yuan, according to staff at the China Unicom product innovation office.
