October 10, 2010 marks the 19th World Mental Health Day, and in China, 1 person out of 13 suffers from a mental disease, peopledaily.com.cn reported Sunday.

This year's event is focusing on raising awareness among youth, parents, teachers, community residents and the working population.

Statistics announced at the beginning of 2009 by National Center for Mental Health, China-CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), show that more than 100 million people in China suffer from various mental diseases, more than any other kind of disease.

Hu Xiong, vice director of the Eighth Hospital of Zhengzhou in Henan Province, said, "In recent years, under high pressure and fast-paced lifestyles, people more often suffer from mental diseases."

Hu added, "Situation in Henan Province is about the same nationwide."
