Two people are dead and 90 are missing after rain-triggered mudslides hit a remote village in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
About forty others are wounded in Litoudi Village of Puladi Township, in the Drung-Nu Autonomous County of Gongshan.
More than 1,000 rescuers are searching for the missing. Most of them are employees of the Yujin Iron Mine and local villagers.
Zhou Tianqiang, a reporter from the local Gongshan Television, was on site hours after the disaster.
"Previously there was an iron mine. It's completely destroyed and submerged by the mudslide. All workshops and equipment are out of sight." Zhou said.
The mudslides also destroyed a bridge and blocked parts of the Nujiang River.
The provincial government has sent tents, quilts, overcoats and clothes to the area.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the massive landslide in Zhouqu County in northwest China's Gansu has risen to 1,287. 457 people are now on the missing list.
And as the death toll continues to climb, the work to clean up the area continues.
General coordinator Chen Jianhua says one major task is re housing and helping survivors return to to normal life as soon as possible.
"For those who have no place to go, which means with no relatives in nearby towns, we will set up settlement centers to help them get back on foot again." Chen said.
The coordinator says the town's students will be moved to other places in the new semester, including relocating all students of a middle school to the provincial capital Lanzhou.
Life in Zhouqu is gradually returning to normal. Drinking water, internet and mail service have all been restored.
However heavy rain is forecast over the next three days, which is expected to hinder the clean-up efforts.
