Ninety percent of Chinese white-collar workers are suffering an overload of stress. Those working in Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai are the most unhappy, Xinmin Evening News reports.

Rising house prices, Children's education fees, fierce competition in the job market and crowded transportation are the major causes of their anxiety, with escalating house prices heading the list, a survey conducted by Tsinghua University's media center revealed this March.

The people interviewed in the nationwide survey were born between 1960 and 1990, and eighty percent of them have an income which surpasses 3000 yuan per month. The majority of them are civil servants, officials in government, managers in companies, doctors, researchers, lawyers and people working in IT, Media and financial industries.

According to the survey, eighty percent of civil servants and white-collar workers feel great or extreme pressure, and over sixty percent said the major pressure comes from buying a house. The health index of white-collar workers in China between 2009 and 2010 stands at 76.1, which is lower than it should be considering their age, educational background and medical care, according to an anonymous director of a health care department at a first class hospital in Shanghai.
