Better Media Literacy Education on Youth Called

China should strengthen media literacy education on children to enhance the development of both domestic and global citizenship, according to an action plan made on Saturday at the second international forum on media literacy education.
More than 20 scholars from British, Japanese and Chinese universities discussed on the topic of "media literacy and citizen's development", and worked out the action plan.
It also urged researchers on media literacy education to try to make relevant courses be included in curriculums of primary and high schools in China.
The forum was organized by the Communication University of China. Yuan Jun, vice president of the Communication University of China, said media has been playing a more and more important role in the development of citizenship.
"Modern education should take the approach of realize a citizen's development through media literacy education," Yuan said.
Media literacy generally refers to the ability to access, understand and create communications in a variety of contexts.
