Police on Monday detained a work safety official in east China's Shandong Province on suspicion of traffic violations after an accident that left two people dead and four injured.
Liu Xingwen, director of the Work Safety Supervision Administration of Zhangdian District of Zibo City, was driving on a highway Sunday when his sedan suddenly veered into a bicycle lane and hit a stationary truck at 3:20 PM, according to the traffic police detachment of Zibo.
Two of the five men who were working on the truck died at the scene and three others and a passenger were injured.
Tests showed no signs of alcohol in Liu's blood, said a police spokesman.
Zhu Hu, director of the publicity department of the public security bureau of Zibo, said police were still questioning Liu and they would announce specific charges as soon as the investigation was complete.
Evidence collected at the scene indicated that Liu was culpable, Zhu said.
The four injured were all described as stable in hospital.
