A group of more than 20 Spanish scientists are now in China to study this century's longest solar eclipse, official sources said on Monday.

The Spanish experts are expected to observe and tape record the rare phenomenon that will occur on Wednesday in China, said the sources with the regional government in Extremadura, west of Spain.

The group, led by astronomer Miquel Serra-Ricart, a member of the International Astronomical Union, is composed of experts on astronomy, communications and informatics.

Along with the experts, some young Spanish students also got the chance to visit China and its scientific facilities, the sources said.
