China's Ministry of Health said on Friday a new suspected case of A/H1N1 flu in southern Guangdong Province was the first case of domestic infection on the mainland.
The patient used to have a close contact with a Chinese-American man who was confirmed Friday as Guangdong's thirdA/H1N1 flu patient by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the ministry said.
The ministry did not reveal details of the new suspected case. Medical experts warned earlier that China faces a growing risk of domestic spread of the A/H1N1 flu as more cases from abroad were being discovered.
The latest confirmed case in Guangdong involves a 28-year-old male Chinese American, who works in a hospital in New York.
He took flight OZ221 at 12:30 PM on May 23 from New York to Incheon City in the Republic of Korea, and took OZ369 at 7:70 AM on May 24 from Incheon to Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong. He developed flu symptoms since then and went to hospital on Wednesday (May 27).
Also on Friday, the Health Ministry said two new suspected flu cases, both from outside the mainland, were reported in Guangdong's Shenzhen city, near Hong Kong.
