Guangdong Reports Suspected A/H1N1 Flu Case

The health authorities of southern China's Guangdong Province reported a new suspected A/H1N1 influenza case early on Wednesday.

The case involved a 62-year-old ethnic Chinese man of US nationality, who arrived in Hong Kong on May 17 on Cathay Pacific flight CX 879 from San Francisco. He took a bus to Taishan, Jiangmen in Guangdong Province, on May 18.

He developed a fever on May 20 and saw a doctor on May 22. The next day, he went to the People's Hospital of Taishan City, and was tested positive for A/H1N1 flu by the municipal Center of Disease Control and Prevention.

On Tuesday, the Guangdong provincial and Guangzhou municipal centers of Disease Control and Prevention also tested the case A/H1N1 positive.

The provincial health authorities diagnosed the case as a suspected A/H1N1 flu case on Tuesday night.

As of Tuesday, the mainland had 12 confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases.
