A fund dedicated to help the aged in need in China was
launched Saturday in Beijing.
The first ever national fund, jointly established by
the China Aging Development Foundation (CADF) and the Beijing
Putiye Culture Development Co., Ltd. and various other enterprises,
is designed to assist the governmental sections in subsidizing
basic life expenses for the needy senior citizens, especially those
still living under the poverty line.
According to sources quoted by Xinhua news reports,
China now faces a growing challenge in its aging population, with
the number of people above 60 surpassing 144 million already. The
aging problem, extremely unbalanced throughout the country, is
becoming increasingly serious. Senior citizens are confronted with
various difficulties in terms of living condition and
health.
"To address the problems faced by the aged group in
need, we need more concern and participation from all walks of life
rather than simply relying on government subsidies," said Li Baoku,
the president of the CADF. Li called on those with loving hearts to
play a more active role in public welfare activities.
CADF is a registered non-profit social organization
that seeks assistance from individuals and groups at home and
abroad who care about the senior population. It assists the
government in promoting the development of social welfare,
healthcare, and education about how best to assist the
old.
