China's first home-grown passenger jet aircraft, the ARJ21-700, is set to make its maiden flight on September 21, according to National Business Daily reports.

The aircraft, named "Xiangfeng", meaning "flying phoenix", was designed and produced by the China Aviation Industry Corporation I. The first ARJ21-700 jet rolled off the production line last December in Shanghai.

The test flight, which was originally to take place in March, was postponed until autumn due to unsuitable conditions.

Three of the finished jets will conduct test flights later this month.
