Agricultural Progress Needs Technological Innovation

Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Thursday urged equipping China's agriculture sector with advanced technologies.

He made the remark in a speech to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the China Association of Agricultural Science Societies (CAASS).

"China must promote technological innovation and application of new technologies in agriculture to ensure sound and rapid development of the sector," Hui said.

To guarantee grain safety and the supply of agricultural products with limited farmland and water resources and meanwhile protect the environment constitutes an arduous task for China, said Hui.

He said science and technology are important weapons to break the bottleneck of resource constraints.

Hui urged the CAASS to continue to educate farmers with agriculture-related technologies and spread scientific knowledge in rural areas.
