Deaf-mute Boy Enjoys Merry Life

Liu Danyang, a deaf-mute boy of grade one in middle school of Yichang Special Education School. He came to a mute world when he was born. His father and mother got divorced when he was 5 months old. He grew up with his grandma and grandpa with a little pension every month. This 11-year old boy studies very good in school. He always put what he learned to his life. He tried to communicate with his word after he learned some easy pronunciations. He helped his grandma to take notes about their daily expense after he learned how to calculate. He expresses his mood through his painting learned from his art class. He is an energizer in his class. He always joked with finger language to his classmates when some of them didn't get along with each other. Liu has a very kind heart. Last year he devoted his pin money saved for several years to the disaster areas after the earthquake happened in Wenchuan county near Dujianyan city, southwest China's Sichuan province. He and his friends of art group sent their paintings to the disaster areas to encourage the survivors to be brave and strong. Danyang loves painting. His works Run to the Light painted for the 2008 Paralympics won an award in Tokyo in November last year. Danyang addressed as the only handicapped child with other five children at 16th National Congress of the Communist Youth League on June 6, 2008. Every delegate in the congress was moved by his smile. Liu won lots of awards includes National Top Ten Young Pioneer Award. Although life is tough, Liu always told everyone he met with his nonstandard pronunciation that he is very happy. Danyang longs to be a painter. It's his dream. He wants to contribute himself to the society with the beauty of art in the future. [Xnhua]
